Social responsibility

Sustainability. Environmentally friendly technologies and materials

All of our products are designed to respond efficiently in packaging processes, thus optimising film, gas, air and energy consumption.

We focus on minimising the amount of packaging required, with the aim of minimising storage and transportation costs, while also having the smallest possible impact on the environment.

There is a marked trend in our sector of requiring minimised packaging, lightweighting, energy efficiency, the use of new materials, recyclability, etc. These trends require us to develop high-tech solutions.

Areas of development:

  • Reduction and minimising of waste and biodegradable materials.
  • Replacing plastics with organic materials.
  • Optimising the cost of packaging through thickness reduction.
  • Traceability and food safety.
  • Minimising the energy consumption of machinery.
  • Customising packaging to improve brand value.
  • Longer lasting packaging.
As part of the ULMA Group, we have embraced Social Responsibility as part of the very essence of our identity. Since our inception we have promoted active collaboration with a large number of organisations that work for the benefit of society. For us, the key is to balance financial success and social welfare with respecting and protecting the environment. CSR is ingrained in the very essence of our company and our cooperative values. In ULMA, we engage in activities to promote the social economy, support education and cooperative training and promote research. Our CSR policy also seeks to have an impact on other areas of activity such as social action and welfare (supporting projects that ensure the comprehensive development of disadvantaged groups and poor communities), promoting education, sport as a means of promoting healthy lifestyles, culture as a way of helping to transform our environment and sustainability as the key to enduring over time.
As members of the SAVE FOOD initiative, in ULMA Packaging we are strongly committed to reducing food waste. SAVE FOOD is a joint initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Messe Düsseldorf and Interpack, the leading global trade fair for the packaging and packing industry. The goal is to fight global food waste and loss through a global partnership of the above stakeholders. According to the FAO, one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year - approximately 1.3 billion tonnes — gets lost or wasted: an amount that would be sufficient to meet the world's food needs. Together with its partners from industry, the political sphere and the civil society, SAVE FOOD aims to drive innovations, promote interdisciplinary dialogue and stimulate debates in order to generate solutions, across the entire value chain “from field to fork”.
The ULMA Foundation is the organisation through which the ULMA Group fulfils its social commitment and distributes the wealth generated in the pursuit of social welfare. The ULMA Foundation was created as a means of cooperating with those around us, to share our identity, values and culture with society. The following are some of the objectives of the ULMA Foundation:
  • To promote and support the social economy in the places where we operate our business.
  • To support social-cooperative and professional education and training.
  • To support and promote social, cultural and welfare activities.
  • To promote solidarity and inter-cooperation.
  • To promote research and development, supporting initiatives that involve promoting new activities and supporting special-interest projects.
