Sustainability. Environmentally friendly technologies and materials

We are strongly commited to reduce the amount of packaging required, with the aim minimizing impact on the environment, while maintaining the benefits of packaging, in terms of product protection and shelf life.

We work in a very close collaboration with film suppliers, in the development of new packagings and materials, to offer our customers more recyclable or compostable packaging solutions.

ULMA is in a constant evolution to offer our customers the most updated machines capable to work with more sustainable materials..


Our machines manufacture packages as waste free as possible using the minimum quantity of plastic:

  • Plastic reduction (net film).
  • Thinner gauge films (BDF, PO).
  • Optimized packaging size.
  • Tight-bagTM, Venturi.
  • Minimum scrap.
  • Trayless packaging.
As members of the SAVE FOOD initiative, in ULMA Packaging we are strongly committed to reducing food waste. SAVE FOOD is a joint initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Messe Düsseldorf and Interpack, the leading global trade fair for the packaging and packing industry. The goal is to fight global food waste and loss through a global partnership of the above stakeholders. According to the FAO, one third of the food produced in the world for human consumption every year - approximately 1.3 billion tonnes — gets lost or wasted: an amount that would be sufficient to meet the world's food needs. Together with its partners from industry, the political sphere and the civil society, SAVE FOOD aims to drive innovations, promote interdisciplinary dialogue and stimulate debates in order to generate solutions, across the entire value chain “from field to fork”.

We have designed our machines to be capable to work with sustainable materials to guarante recycling::

  • Monomaterial (PET, PP, PE).
  • Cellulose trays.
  • Other recycle ready materials.
  • Bio plastic obtained from renewable sources.
  • Compostable plastics (PLA polylactic acid).
  • Cellophane.
