IPD Dental Group relies on ULMA Packaging to ensure the traceability and protection of its prosthetic components

Jul 15, 2025
IPD Dental Group, a Catalan company founded in 2004 and currently present in over 30 countries worldwide, specializes in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of prosthetic components for dental implants.

Challenge

IPD faced two fundamental needs:

  • Ensuring the physical protection of the product throughout the entire distribution process—from manufacturing to its final installation in dental clinics worldwide.

  • Guaranteeing full traceability of each component: every package needed to include detailed information about the product, its origin, batch number, and guarantees, enabling clinics to securely and permanently store this record in the patient’s medical history.

Solution

After thoroughly analyzing the specific characteristics of the product, ULMA Packaging proposed a technical solution based on its TFE and TFS series thermoforming machines, specifically adapted for packaging single-use medical/pharmaceutical devices.

TFE 500 and TFS 500 Thermoformers: Safety, Versatility, and Traceability

The thermoformers from both series offered key features for IPD:

  • Rigid packaging formation, providing effective protection against impacts or potential damage during transport or handling.

  • High versatility to accommodate different tray configurations and packaging materials.

  • Large film lid surface, ideal for labeling, allowing all necessary information to be printed for complete traceability.

  • Hygienic design and technical standards that meet the specific requirements of the medical/pharmaceutical sector.

Result

Thanks to the installation of one TFE 500 line and two TFS 500 lines, IPD has fully optimized the packaging process for its components, achieving tangible benefits:

  • Product Protection
The implants are packaged in custom rigid trays that provide optimal protection against impacts during logistics, preserving the integrity of these delicate components.
  • Visible and Accessible Information
The packaging format allows for a large surface area to place labels containing all critical information: reference number, batch number, compatibility, unique codes, QR codes, etc.
  • Post-Clinical Traceability
Once the implant has been placed, all the information printed on the label is archived in the patient’s medical record. This system allows clinics to retain physical proof of the implant’s origin and traceability, offering peace of mind to both professionals and patients.

Once again, ULMA Packaging reaffirms its position in the medical sector with customized solutions that meet the specific requirements of clients in this field.
